The English story-telling competitions, organised for F.1 and F.2 students on 14th and 15th March 2024 respectively, aimed at cultivating students’ passion for reading, boosting their confidence in public speaking as well as developing their appreciation for Chinese folklores. With the support of our teachers and students, the events concluded with success and the storytellers narrated their chosen stories with nice voice modulation, pauses and impressive facial expressions. The judging panel applauded their effort and congratulated all winning storytellers.

Form 1 English Storytelling Competition – reflections by 1A (2) Cheng Kin Lam
In my opinion, Alice delivered her story in the most impressive manner. She spoke loudly and clearly, and showed a lot of creativity. Her English was fluent. Also, I love how she used different tones to narrate different characters. For example, her voice was squeaky and high-pitched while performing as the little frog, and she could capture the characters’ emotions well. Her narration was spectacular, for it was like watching a drama. The Frog and the Ox is a classic. It reminds me that being humble is a traditional Chinese virtue. I really enjoyed her storytelling performance.
Champion : Lin Ho Chun, Kenneth, F.2B (‘The Emperor‘s New Clothes’)
1st runner-up : Lai Tsz Nok, F.2E (‘The Wind and the Sun’)
2nd runner-up : Tsang Man Yi, Minnie, F.2A (‘The North Wind and the Sun’)
Form 2 English Storytelling Competition – reflections by 2A (30) Zheng Sheng Lin
I think many of the contestants gave very interesting performances, and clearly spent a lot of time practising, adding emotions to the stories, and changing their voices, etc. After watching the competition, I have learned a lot. For example, in The Emperor's New Clothes, I have learned we have to use our wisdom to do things by ourselves. We cannot blindly trust others and we should be honest to one another. In North Wind and the Sun, I have learned that instead of trying to force the other person to do things your way, it's better to be gentle and convince him or her. In The Foolish Old Man Removes the Mountain, I have also understood that perseverance will always lead to success. These morals are highly related to our lives so it is important to keep them in mind.
