Reflection

- Charmaine Ko

The Wo Foo Outstanding Student Award Scheme 2023/24 was a meaningful program that lasted 7 months, from November 2023 to May 2024, which significantly expanded my horizons and provided me with a wealth of new experiences.

Throughout the program, a diverse array of activities were organized, ranging from day camps, talks by customs officers, to Tai Chi sessions with the elderly. During the day camp, we had the opportunity to play group games with primary school students. During the talks, we learnt the key differences between customs officers and police officers and learnt to appreciate their important roles in our daily lives. In the Tai Chi sessions, we were taught some basic Tai Chi choreographic techniques by the elderly participants. All these activities helped us feel more connected to our community and deepened our understanding of the program's central theme: the virtue of responsibility.

The most memorable activity was undoubtedly the day camp, where I had to interact with and engage primary school students. We collaborated to design a game for other groups to play. Despite the age gap, I embraced this challenge wholeheartedly. Through patience and empathy, I was able to gain the trust of the younger participants and, in the process, I learned to be a more responsible and caring individual.
